That’s weird to say, isn’t it? 2015 was a good year. I started my Etsy shop, moved, got a puppy, started my blog, moved again, and had huge success at my first craft show. As I reflect on last year, I realize that I spent a lot of time focusing on my shop. I am so grateful for the orders I had throughout the year and especially during the holiday season.
That said, I’ve recently felt that there is a void. I go to yarn shops and gawk at the selection, not entirely sure what makes each one different or what projects to use them for. I find (and purchase) patterns that I desperately want to try, only to set them aside in favor of housework. I’ve decided that enough is enough. I want to learn more about fibers and try new techniques. I yearn to knit different styles and find what suits me. I’d love to write a pattern that isn’t scribbled on a napkin.
That’s where my “new year’s resolution” comes in.
I’ll be the first to say I’m not big on resolutions. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve ever made one. But here I am, typing on my phone’s tiny screen. I’m that determined.
I will knit one new thing each week in 2016. I may use patterns I’ve purchased, free patterns, or make up my own. I might try luxurious fibers or use acrylic yarn from Michael’s (I’m not a yarn snob). Each week will bring a new challenge, whether I knit tiny sock earrings – I can’t wait for that week – or an intricate afghan (I don’t see that happening). Big or small, I want to learn more about my favorite craft.
I invite any and all knitters (and crocheters, I actually want to learn that this year as well) to join me. Beginner or expert, it doesn’t matter! Let’s challenge ourselves to become better.
If you’d like to join in, please use the Instagram hashtag #52weeksofknits so I can see what you create! I have my first week’s project in the works already and can’t wait to share it! I hope to share photos along the way, mainly on Instagram, and also to blog each project.
Happy 2016 & Happy Knitting!
